Reader’s question: I have had a bad experience with the claims department of my insurance company some years ago.  I was very unhappy with the way they handled my situation and how they conducted business with me.  I am with a new company now but I am still anxious how things are going to turn out if I get involved in a misfortune again.  How is the car insurance industry in Alexandria and the rest of the US faring at the moment?

Hello Brad,

I feel bad for you hearing that you’ve had a bad experience with your old insurance claims performance and business dealings.  You are not the only person who’s had such experience with Alexandria car insurance companies and I am quite sure you won’t be the last.  A lot of complaints have been aired about insurance companies and this could certainly make the insurance business look bad.

That is why studies have been conducted to find out how the insurance industry is faring among its clients.  In the US which also includes Alexandria, car insurance company satisfaction among its customers entails several factors.  Experts have weighted the importance of these factors and based their study according to the dynamics that has been formulated.

I will share to you the results of the 2009 National Auto Insurance Study which I respect so much.  The study involved 22,930 car insurance holders from Alexandria and all over the United States and was fielded in March and April of this year.

You will be happy to know that in the recent years and in this year especially, lower premiums have driven up customer satisfaction in the United States including Alexandria’s car insurance companies.

The 2009 National Auto Insurance Study polled and measured customer satisfaction with auto insurance firms involving five factors which includes in their order of performance interaction, policy offerings, billing and payment, price and claims.

The study reflects that overall satisfaction of the customers with their insurers has reached a five year high this year which got an average of 801 on 1,000 point scale.  The score increased by 14 points from the preceding years.  More than half of the ranked insurance companies have significantly made improvements year after year.  Four of the most important factors have reflected material increases in customer satisfaction.  The most notable change occurred in the area of price.  Accordingly, 42 percent of those polled reported that their premiums decreased without having to switch to another insurer.

The study also reflects major changes in the area of non-claims interaction, which is considered by the body the most important factor that could drive over all satisfaction.

While agency insurers fared better in interaction that the direct insurers, their advantage is very minimal, an increase of only seven index points.

Another key factor that has helped dispel dissatisfaction was engaging customers in discussions regarding rate increases before renewal time arrive.  When customers are notified of significant rate increases in advance, they are also more satisfied with their car insurance provider.

In Alexandria, car insurance companies have also gained ground in terms of customer satisfaction.  It is good to know that you can rest your worries for the time being.
